This Week in Bitcoin (March 15th, 2023)

Is PSBT the ticker symbol for Pabst Blue Ribbon?

What is up you beautiful people!

If your a Bitcoin nerd digging in the weeds like me, you may have heard of PSBT's.These Partially Signed Bitcoin Transactions are the most important work on Bitcoin right now to unlock Ordinals.

We got some big updates. But first. Shoutout to The Stacks Foundation for sponsoring this podcast. Bitcoin

We've been inscribing for weeks, when do we start selling? The marketplace of marketplaces is starting to develop for Ordinals.

  • Big news: The team behind Ordinals is working on a way to launch proper collections. Estimated to arrive in the next week or so. This will allow you to create safer collections that can be tracked to their proper creator. A big risk right now is determining if an inscription is a fake or not.

  • RoninDojo launches a privacy-focused phone. The phone uses a Google Pixel 6 for the hardware combined with an open-source operating system. If you are adamant about using Lightning out and about as safe as possible. This might be a great option.

  • The Umbrel app store now supports the Ordinals explorer. You can now view the Ordinals interface directly from your home node. Might be time to finally pick one of these up and run a node.

Let me borrow your finger for a second.

I'm doing research on how willing people are to use DeFi with native BTC. Do me a solid and respond to the option that fits you best.

Stacks

I've said it before. The next bull run will be lead by Bitcoin and Stacks builders are leading the way.

  • ALEX (DeFI protocol) has now been live for 1 year. With that big milestone their token emissions of the $ALEX token have hit their first halving. Also, ALEX just raised a second round of funding. Securing $2.5 million to continue building the best DeFi platform. 👏 Last but not least, they launched an SDK for devs to integrate the swapping tech from ALEX's liquidity pools into their applications.

  • Hiro Wallet gets support for PSBT's. These partially signed Bitcoin transactions are the new cool kids on the block. They allow you to set some parameters for a transaction (say I'll sell my ordinal for 0.1 BTC) and then someone else can complete the other half and agree to give you 0.1 BTC in exchange for your Ordinal. All in a trust-minimized safe way. With this update, Hiro Wallet is one of the few wallets out their with support for PSBT's. These are a big unlock for creating great Ordinals marketplaces.

  • Xverse Wallet (The best Web3 Bitcoin wallet, Don't @ me) announced is new product for developers. The Sats Connect Bitcoin Wallet API makes it way easier for Bitcoin devs to retrieve addresses, sign PSBT's for trustless swaps of Ordinals, and view transaction details. I guess they got more on the way as well including mobile support. Sounds like big stuff but I'm no dev. 🤷

  • The Hiro Systems team also dropped a new Ordinals Explorer that's lightyears better than the OG one everyone's been using! You can filter and sort collections, see inscription in a beautiful layout, and check out stats like inscrips per block and total number of inscriptions.

  • The same team also launched an Ordinals API. Now devs can interact and build apps for Ordinals without having to manage their own infrastructure.

  • Apollo (made by the team behind Megapont) has released some upgrades to their smart contract management platform. They now support Stacks wallet snapshots. Great for getting addresses for airdrops, giveaways, etc. Side note: I'll be airdropping some goodies to holders of Built on Bitcoin NFT's soon.

Lightning

  • THNDR Games released a new Lightning-powered game called Bitcoin Blocks. A spin on Tetris and Sudoku where you can win some sats. 🔥

  • PodcastIndex (The group behind the Podcasting 2.0 standard) has released a stat page showing numbers on Lightning payments following to creators from listeners.

  • On the same topic, Fountain.FM have been creating an amazing podcasting app that integrates heavily with Lightning. They are raising a seed round of funding and doing it in a democratized way, accepting as little as 1k. Learn more here and listen to my podcast with the founder Oscar Merry (episode 94)

That's it for this week's edition.Don't forget to hug a Bitcoiner.-Jake
