Built on Bitcoin 3-2-1 Update

True Bitcoin DeFi is (nearly) Here. (Lending, Stables, Etc)

I promised you a weekly newsletter with 3 newsworthy items, 2 thought-provoking discussions, 1 breakdown of a complex idea.

Here’s two-thirds of that agreement. No breakdown this week.

3 big releases this week

  • Stablecoins have tremendous product-market fit. Outside of BTC being used as a store-of-value. They are the single biggest use of cypto today.
Which brings me to Ducat. A new Bitcoin-backed stablecoin leveraging the Runes token standard. They’ve been building in stealth and just launched their testnet this week! Check it out (I have 2 invite codes)

  • Boltz announced support for Rootstock for their BTC atomic swap protocol. BTC derivatives are a hot topic right now. You bring your native BTC into a layer 2 and get a 1:1 backed token to go do fun things.

Swap providers like Boltz make it dead simple to go from BTC to rBTC, or sBTC into L-BTC. Product that will be massively useful at Bitcoin DeFi continues to take off and steal the air from the crypto hot air ballon.

  • BTC HIT $92K!

2 thought-provoking conversations

  • What even is Bitcoin Consensus when we’re talking about upgrading Bitcoin?

James O’Berine, a prominent Bitcoin core dev, wrote an interesting piece of his thoughts on the topic. Check out the Bitcoin Mag, then click over to this Twitter Thread with gigabrains from around the community sounding off.

  • On the same topic of upgrading Bitcoin. Blockspace Media hosted their first conference last weekend, titled OP_NEXT. The focus of the conference was how best to scale Bitcoin, the best ideas currently floating around, and what does moving forward look like.

Highly recommend watching the recordings of the panels if your a Bitcoin nerd (like myself)
